CORDOVA — Virginia Lee “Ginny” Cheezum of Cordova, MD, died at the University of MD Shore Medical Center in Easton on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. She was 68.
Born on March 25, 1947 in Easton, MD; she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Virginia Ewing Jones. She attended Talbot Co. public schools. On May 20, 1967 she married J. Douglas “Doug” Cheezum and they made their home in Cordova.
In addition to her husband of 48 years, she is survived by her children: Mark Cheezum (Debbie) of Columbus, MS, Steven Lee Cheezum of Pigeon Forge, TN, and Melinda Dee Stafford (Larry) of Hillsboro, MD; five grandchildren: Gretchen Purtee (Chris) of Eupora, MS, Amber Cheezum of Columbus, MS, Stephanie Cheezum of Pigeon Forge, TN, Brianna Stafford and Alayna Stafford, both of Hillsboro, MD; one great-granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Purtee of Eupora, MS; a step-granddaughter Samantha Moon of Trappe, and a step-great-grandson Bentley. Five siblings: Dorothy Lednum of St. Michaels, Tommy Jones of Denton, Hilda Reese (John) of Preston, Frances Sinclair of Easton, and Bobby Jones (Sharon) of Neavitt. She is also survived by a former daughter-in-law Dawn Byrd of Columbus, MS. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Barbara Loudermilk.
Funeral Services will be held at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church, Hillsboro, MD, on Saturday, October 17th at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held at the Church on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
